Dizziness as a symptom
Vertigo and balance disorders are among the most common symptoms in medicine, especially in the field of neurology. However, dizziness is not a disease in its own right, but a physical symptom that can have many causes, so that an interdisciplinary clarification is often necessary. The neurological speciality of neuro-otology is primarily concerned with the neurological causes of balance disorders, including vestibular migraine, vestibular paroxysmia, diseases of the brainstem or cerebellum, and special neurodegenerative diseases.
Vestibular laboratory
A number of examination methods are available in the attached balance laboratory, if indicated, to further clarify the causes of balance disorders (video-oculography, rotational chair examination, subjective visual vertical, positioning tests, etc). In cooperation with the Neuro-otology Outpatient Clinic of the ENT clinic of the Medical University of Vienna, further neuro-otological or audiological clarifications (video-HIT, caloric testing, audiometry, etc.) are carried out if disorders of the vestibular organ are suspected and the corresponding indication is given.
